The following column, written by Town Supervisor Michael P. Sweeton, will be published in the Feb. 15 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch:
MTA Metro-North Railroad has been advancing the Port Jervis Line Capacity Improvements Study with the goal of providing improved service for Port Jervis Line customers. The service improvements will allow more frequent peak and off-peak service, as well as introduce reverse peak service. To support the improved service, Metro-North has identified track capacity improvements and a new train yard mid-way along the Port Jervis Line.
You are invited to an Open House event for the Port Jervis Line Improvements Study to be held on Wed., Feb. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Haughton Hall in the Harness Racing Museum, located at 240 Main St. in Goshen, NY. The Open House will offer the public an opportunity to view and obtain information about the proposed Port Jervis Line improvements.
Presentations will be given at 5 p.m. and repeated at 7 p.m. The presentation will describe the analysis of Port Jervis Line track capacity improvement options and provide an update on the evaluation of potential yard locations. Metro-North representatives will be available to explain the study, answer questions and get feedback from all participants.
Cascade Road in the vicinity of 280-290 has experienced settling in one lane. The road has been narrowed to one lane, and warning signs have been erected to warn motorists. This restriction will remain in place until such time as permanent repairs can be made. An engineering analysis is currently underway. Motorists are urged to slow down and exercise caution when traveling through the area.
Town Hall will be closed on Fri., Feb. 17 and Mon., Feb. 20 in observation of Lincoln and Washington’s birthdays. Town Hall will re-open on Tues., Feb. 21 at 8:30 a.m.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy.
