I would like to thank everyone who participated in Operation Clean Sweep. Through your efforts several dump truck loads of trash were cleaned from our roadsides and transported to the County Transfer Station. I want to thank the Orange County Government for graciously waiving the tipping fees, our DPW for collecting all the bags, the Warwick Chamber of Commerce for their organization and skills, the service groups and businesses who participated and especially our residents who pitched in and picked up!
If something is broken, why not bring it to the Repair Café to be held on Sat., May 19 at the Senior Center behind Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy. The Repair Café will begin at 10 a.m., and the last repair will be accepted at 1:30 p.m. Limit two items per person. At the Repair Café you’ll find tools and supplies to help make repairs to wooden furniture, small appliances, electronics, & housewares, clothes & textiles, lamps & lighting, crockery, toys and more. You’ll also find “repair coaches,” such as electricians, seamstresses, mechanics, knife and tool sharpeners, and all-purpose fix-it pros with superior technical skills. Stay at the Café, watch and learn. Repairs are free, except for a charge, at the Café’s expense, for lamp replacements parts. Donations are always gratefully accepted to help meet expenses. There will be free coffee and tea (bring your own mug) and baked treats and fruit for sale. For more information about the Repair Café concept, visit http://www.repaircafehv.org/#welcome1 or www.sustainablewarwick.org.
The Town Board proclaimed the week of May 20 to May 26 as Emergency Medical Services Week in the Town of Warwick. We are blessed with three very strong volunteer ambulance corps – Greenwood Lake, Pine Island and Warwick, that day after day answer the call to help our residents in need. We are grateful for your service, and we salute you!
Condolences to the family of Robert Morse, a longtime worker for our Department of Public Works. Bob was a skilled employee, dedicated family man and an honorable gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Tues., May 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick NY. Please note this is a change of date.
The above column, written by Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, has been published in the May 2 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
