The Town Beach, located at the end of Windermere Ave. in the Village of Greenwood Lake, is now open seven days a week through Labor Day, Mon., Sept. 3. The beach, open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., is staffed by certified lifeguards and provides picnic areas, as well as restroom and shower facilities. Daily passes are available at the gate, and both resident as well as non-resident passes are available at the Town Clerk’s office in the Warwick Town Hall, Mon. through Fri. from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Nine mile Greenwood Lake is one of the Town’s most precious assets and a huge contributor to our local economy. Designation an MS-4 protection area by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requires the Town to be proactive in protecting this vital resource. To be most effective we need your help. One easy way, if you live on or near the lake, is to avoid the use of lawn fertilizers which contain Phosphorous (P). Phosphorus is not necessary to promote healthy lawns, with most of it leaching from your soil and ending up in the lake, to the detriment of humans and wildlife. It is easy to avoid this if you are going to fertilize your lawn. Fertilizer is sold with a three number designation, like 12-5-10. The numbers stand for percentage of Nitrogen-Phosphorous-Potassium contained in the fertilizer. By only using lawn fertilizer with a “0” as the middle number, you will ensure you are doing your part to keep Greenwood Lake healthy.
