The following column, written by Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, has been published in the Mar. 22 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch:
Last week our area was hammered with almost two feet of snow. Through the extraordinary effort of the men and women of the Town’s Department of Public Works, all Town roads remained open and were cleared for safe travel by the morning rush. For close to sixteen hours the crews battled a brutal storm and did an outstanding job in extremely difficult conditions. Thankfully residents heeded the call to remain home, and our Police Department reported no significant issues. We appreciate your patience as we clean up, make repairs and prepare for what’s left of winter.
The Appalachian Trail Conference has recently named Warwick resident, John DeSanto, as our new ATC Ambassador. In an effort to acquaint more people with how wonderful a treasure the Warwick part of the trail is, John has created a website, www.hikewarwick.com. It’s a great site with loads of helpful information, so be sure to check it out!
