This coming August, the Warwick Valley Community Center, located at 11 Hamilton Ave. in Warwick, will showcase a weeklong camp of their new enrichment program, “School of Rock.” “School of Rock” will also hold a fundraiser on Sat., Jul. 15 at the Community Center. Local bands and artists will perform and display work in hopes of raising funds for screen printing materials and other various musical equipment.
The school is currently accepting students of any musical experience and background, but students must be in sixth grade or up. The program will be held from Mon., Aug. 7 through Fri., Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students will get the opportunity to learn basic music theory, explore and receive instructions on multiple instruments, play and write songs with fellow students, learn performance skills, and learn how to screen print and make their own merchandise. Overall, students will receive a crash-course on all of the fundamentals of starting and maintaining a successful band and solo project. The goal is to inspire students to become cultivators, innovators, and community leaders while using the power of music and art to impact local communities.
The cost is $75 for the entire week and payments are due by Fri., Jul. 21. For an application or more information, send an email to SORWarwick@gmail.com or call Karen at 986-6422, ext. 4.
