The Village of Florida Board of Trustees addressed several items at their regular Board meeting on Wed., Oct. 11. Deputy Village Clerk Colleen Wierzbicki reported that correspondence had been received from NYS Senator John Bonacic regarding the launch of Round 5 of the Restore New York Communities Initiative.
The intent of the program is to revive underprivileged areas in a community. Trustee John Barczak said that he had received a separate email from State Senator Bonacic saying that $75,000 had been granted to the Fire Department.
“I want to say thank you to him. It will add value to our Village,” said Barczak.
Leaf Bag Pickup in Village
Trustee Brian Slattery announced that leaf bag pickup will begin on the week of Mon., Oct. 23. He told the public to bag their leaves and put it on curbsides separate from the regular garbage.
Mapes House Update
Village Building Inspector Adrian Mateosian provided an update on the Mapes House restoration. He said that they were now working on the dormer siding and everything above the roof line. He added that they will move onto the restoration of the porch dependent on favorable weather conditions.
Snow & Ice Control on Glenmere Ave.
A motion was passed to allow Mayor Jim Pawliczek to enter into an agreement with the Town of Warwick regarding snow and ice control on Glenmere Ave. from the Village boundary to Glenmere Lake.
Trustee Barczak explained that it makes more sense for the Village of Florida to do the ploughing instead of having the Town of Warwick come all the way out.
LED Lighting Consortium
A motion was also passed to join the Mid-Hudson LED (Light Emitting Diode) Street Lighting Consortium. Mayor Pawliczek said that this would allow the Village to join at least 18 other communities in an aggregated purchase of LED street lights.
He explained that participants will benefit from group pricing on installation and maintenance of LED street lights. Individual municipalities will be responsible for the inventory of existing street lights and determining the design of the new LED system, but will benefit from hands-on assistance from the Consortium.
Creation of Part-time Clerk Positions
A Board will create a part-time Clerk position in the Village offices and for a part-time Clerk position for the Justice Court.
