The Village of Florida dedicated its newest Municipal Parking Lot on Wed., Nov. 15, adjacent to the Library, to increase public parking in the Village to more than 100 spaces, and to alleviate parking issues in the busy and heavily traveled Village.
The dedication ceremony was attended by Conor Gillis from State Senator John J. Bonacic’s office together with James Mezzetti, the Vice President of Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Jan Jansen, President of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. The ZBA (Zoning Board of Appeals) was represented by members Bob Schreibeis and J. R. Pillmeier.
Village Mayor James Pawliczek and Trustee Brian Slattery, in charge of the Department of Public Work and the Buildings and Grounds Department, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Gillis and, on behalf of the entire Village of Florida, thanked him for their support. The new municipal parking lot was funded with a grant for $50,000 from the State Municipal Grant Program and made possible through the assistance of the Senator’s office.
Schreibeis Trucking & Excavating and Anchor Asphalt & Paving excavated and paved the new lot adding approximately 40 new public parking spaces and have included handicap parking. All municipal lots are maintained and owned by the Village and are located on Maple Ave. behind Werner’s and behind Rookie’s Restaurant & Pizzeria, as well as the new lot which is adjacent to Village Hall and the Florida Public Library parking lot.
