Voters approved the school budgets for the Florida, Greenwood Lake and Warwick school districts on Tues., May 15. The Greenwood Lake Union Free School District $26,644,325 budget passed with 192 in favor, while 70 voted no. Also 180 voted to approve a proposition to amend the Capital Reserve Fund, while 81 voted no.
Of the five candidates seeking one of the four available seats on the school board, John Finn received the most votes with 204. Finn has served on the School Board for 38 years.
Three of the four seats are for a three-year term, while one of the seats is for a two-year term vacated by Mary Lally. Joining Finn on the School Board are Thomas O’Brien (198), Barbara McInerney (181), and Michele Kayser (149). The fifth candidate, Ronald Sommer, received 143 votes.
In the Florida Free Union School District, voters approved the $21,690,646 budget with 326 yet votes to 163 no votes. Voters also approved two propositions. A proposition to allow continuous voter registration passed by a vote of 330 to 139, and a proposition to establish a capital reserve fund also passed with a vote of 326 to 143.
Of the three candidates seeking the two available seats on the school board for a three year term, Robert Scheuermann earned a spot on the Board with 323 votes. In a close race for the second seat, John Redman beat Matthew Mulhare by two votes with 282 to 280 votes, respectively.
Voters in the Warwick Valley Central School District (WVCSD) approved the proposed $92.8 million budget with 844 yes votes to 416 no votes. The school bus purchase proposition passed with 816 yes votes to 437 no votes. The proposition to fund a repair reserve passed with 891 yes votes to 363 no votes.
Voters reelected current WVCSD Board of Education members to a three year term. They are: Sharon Davis with 989 votes, Lynn Lillian with 989 votes, and David Eaton with 954 votes.
