The Warwick Fire Department (WFD) Fire Prevention Team was asked to present a three-session training course for kindergarten and first grade students at the request of the Sanfordville Elementary School and the Sanfordville PTA in Warwick NY.
The training enrichment program for future junior firefighters, presented to the students on Wed., Mar. 14, included: extensive fire prevention training; fire extinguisher simulator training; engine company, ladder company, and rescue company operations; firefighter skills; and fire prevention.
At the end of the course, each of the junior firefighters were issued a course completion certificate along with future junior firefighter T-shirts. The Warwick Fire Department was honored that the school afforded them the opportunity to teach the children and looks forward to training students in the future.
Students at Sanfordville were able to choose the classes they wanted to take as part of a Student Enrichment Program. The classes chosen ranged from culinary and firefighting to tailoring. The most sought after class was the junior firefighters in training program and 20 students were chosen to participate.
The Warwick Fire Department is very proud of the students who completed the course and hope to see them as firefighters in the future. The Department extends its thanks to the Sanfordville PTA and the Warwick School District, which allows them to continue to educate the students. A special thanks goes out to Michael Contaxis, the 2nd Assistant Chief and chairman of the WFD Fire Prevention Team.
