The Warwick Fire Department (WFD) reports that for the year to date they have responded to 459 calls for service.
The members of the WFD would like to extend our thanks to all of our Veterans for their service to our country including those from our community the members of our department who have served and continue to serve. Thanks to the Veterans from the American Legion and VFW for inviting us to participate in Warwick Veterans Day Services it was an honor.
Bring Unwrapped Toy to Tree Lighting
The Warwick Fire Department Annual Tree Lighting will be held at the Old School Baptist Meeting House on High St., starting at 6 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 23, with Santa and his Firefighter Elves to follow with treats for the kids and fun for all! Please bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the “Toys for Tots” program, where a donation box will be located.
Pull Over for Emergency Vehicles
Please continue to watch for first responders utilizing personal vehicles responding to emergencies. Every second counts in an emergency and our first responders need your help. When you see a blue light for a firefighter or a green light for emergency medical personnel, they are courtesy lights so we are asking for courtesy to safely pull off to the shoulder of the road to let them pass.
Check Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors
The colder weather is here and the WFD requests that residents continuously check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. We encourage homeowners and landlords to schedule to have residential boilers or home heating systems, including chimneys, cleaned to ensure systems are in working order. We also ask residents to assist Emergency Service Agencies by having house numbers easily visible on the mailbox or on the front of the residence for responders to locate the home in case of an emergency. We ask drivers to have your vehicles scheduled for maintenance to get ready for the cooler months ahead to ensure safe travels on our roadways.
Fire Safety Tips
The Warwick Fire Prevention Team asks that residents follow fire safety tips on our Facebook site and by following the NFPA.org for more fire safety tips and family fire safety games from Sparky the Fire Dog.
150th Anniversary Celebration
Next year the Warwick FD will be celebrating their 150th Anniversary and the members are currently selling $50 tickets for a chance to win $5,000. Ask any of the members of the fire department for a ticket.
