As the last full week of May comes to a close, the heat is followed closely behind by championship games which are now right around the corner. The Warwick Wildcats rally against the competition hoping to make a lasting impression for the end of the season.
On Tues., May 22 the baseball team played well against FDR, earning themselves a Class AA Quarterfinal win, which lands them in the #4 seed. With the final score at 6-2, Warwick was able to play the #1 seeded Pine Bush on Thurs., May 24. Also playing against FDR on the 22nd was the softball team. With a final score of 9-7, Warwick was just two points away from winning. However, the girls still managed to be placed as the #5 seed in the Class AA Finals.
With the help of Jack Leahy’s talent on the mound as well as Grant Dolshun’s two-run homer, the Wildcats were able to beat out the top seed. The final score of this Class A semifinal game was 8-7, Warwick. Unfortunately on the Sat., May 26 the Wildcats were beat out by Kingston, who will advance.
On Wed., May 23 the boys’ lacrosse team beat out the competition to win the Section 9 Class B Championship. Going up against Minisink Valley, the team managed to stay ahead for the length of the game. In 2017, the Wildcats competed against Minisink for the same title only to come up short. Hard work definitely paid off this season!
The girls’ lacrosse team beat out their competition on Fri., May 25 with a final score of 11-10 against Valley Central. This means that they will play against the #1 seed, Minisink in the Class B finals. Taina Gamory scored three goals, with teammates Jaqlyn Jordan and Erin Flannery scoring two each to move on to the next game.
