The Warwick Valley High School football program announces that three players have been inducted in the 2017 Hall of Fame Class. Those who have been inducted are James DePonte of the Class of 1980, Ryan Darcey of the Class of 2006 and Rian White of the Class of 2010. All three of the inductees have had big impacts on the history of Warwick football and will be introduced at the Warwick Football Golf Outing to be held on Fri., Aug. 11 at the Hickory Hill Golf Course, located at 25 County Park Ln. in Warwick.
James DePonte anchored an offensive line that was the best in the Orange County League, including seven All County Football Players (DePonte, Rick Lekoski, Fred Whaley, Russ Pfeiffer, Dave Holt, Steve Zuk, and Brian Kittner). The 1979 team finished 8-1-1, including a 40–18 win over Goshen and a 14–7 win over Monroe-Woodbury.
Following graduation, James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University at Albany and now serves as an Advisory Board Member for their School of Business. He is currently employed as a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York City. He is married to Maureen DePonte and they live with their two daughters in Stamford, CT. He is the brother of Warwick Football Hall of Fame member Paul DePonte.
Ryan Darcey led the Wildcats to Division Titles in 2004 and 2005 as a quarterback/athlete. Ryan was selected as the football captain as a senior. His fourth and 19 scramble against Minisink for a first down led the Wildcats to the Division Title and an AA Football Play–Off Berth. Ryan was an All-League and All Section selection.
Following graduation, Ryan was a four-year starter at Fordham University as an outside linebacker for Coach Tom Massella, where he played on the Fordham Patriot League Champion Team of 2007. Ryan coached for the Fordham Rams for a year then left the Rams for a successful career on Wall Street. Ryan returned to his football roots and he is currently employed by the New York Jets as an offensive video coordinator entering his sixth year in green and white. Ryan, his wife, Rebecca and their daughter, Madison, recently moved back to Warwick.
Rian White was a quarterback and key contributor to the Wildcat Division Championship 2009 Team that finished 8-2. Rian’s career statistics as a quarterback include 4,089 passing yard, 50 passing TD’s and 26 rushing TD’s. His senior year he had a quarterback rating of 123.1 and 31 passing TD’s, and was selected as the Section 9 AA offensive Player of the Year and All State quarterback. Rian played two years of football at Villanova and graduated in 2014 with a degree in finance. He currently works for Motorola Solutions in Chicago and is engaged to Warwick graduate, Taylor Totaro. They have a spring wedding planned.
