As April turns to May, Warwick’s athletic teams continue to show Wildcat pride on the fields. On Mon., Apr. 30, four teams from Warwick Valley H.S. beat out the competition. Both girls’ and boys’ lacrosse played, including the lady Wildcats softball team.
Minisink Valley played a steady game against the girls’ lacrosse team, but the odds were on the Wildcats side as the game ended with a 10-9 final score for Warwick. The high scorers for the game were Natalie Daigle with three goals and assists. Also scoring high for this Division 2 win were Taina Gamory and Erin Flannery with two goals each.
On the field the same day was the softball team, playing against Valley Central. Pitcher Shannon McNally threw an impressive six hitter, six strikeout game as teammate Alyssa Schaechinger hit a homerun as well as a single, two doubles and three RBIs. Brittany Tagg also managed to hit a solo homerun in this Division 2 win. On Fri., May 4 pitcher Shannon McNally threw another great game, striking out seven of Pine Bush’s players. Brittany Tagg of Warwick also drove in four runs and hit two homers, leaving the final score at 7-3, Warwick for another non-league win.
The boys’ lacrosse team played against Saugerties recently and scooped up another non-league win. Contributing to the final score of 16-1 were players Eric Ormsby, Kenton Mears, Jordan Pinksey and Matt Meade all with varying goals and assists. On Wed., May 2 the team played against Monroe-Woodbury, and earned themselves another non-league win. Eric Ormsby scored five goals and an assist. Teammates Jay Hranitz, Noah Daigle and Kenton Mears all scored twice to bring the final score to 14-10, Warwick. This win sets another non-league win for the Wildcats.
The baseball team played Washingtonville twice on Tues., May 1 and Wed, May 2. At the first game, pitcher Jack Leahy struck out eight of his opponents contributing to a final score of 5-4, Warwick for a Division 2 win. The next day the Wildcats put more space in between their final scores, with a conclusion of 19-5 for Warwick. Players Brody Ryan, Brandon Ortiz and Devon Boone all hit homers as well as multiple RBIs and singles for another Division 2 win.
