Kristin Maslanka, a junior outside hitter on the SUNY Delhi women’s volleyball team who is from Pine Island, has topped her stellar season by being named to the ACAA Women’s Volleyball All-Academic Team. Maslanka, who is SUNY Delhi’s career kills leader with 570 and leads the team this year with 176, is a business and technology management major with a 3.45 GPA.
Maslanka recently broke the school career kills record of 509 set by Kelsey Pratt (2009-10) in Delhi’s 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr on Sat., Oct. 14. That performance, along with totaling 36 kills over a four-match span that week, landed the Pine Island native USCAA and NIAC Athlete of the Week honors. Maslanka has posted double digits in kills in five matches this season, including a season-high 14 kills at Dean on Sat., Sept. 16 and a pair of 13-kill showings against Southern Vermont on Wed., Oct. 11 and Culinary on Sat., Oct. 21. The junior is also second on the team with 235 digs, finishing with double digits in digs in 11 contests this season. She had a year-best 18 digs against Maine Presque Isle on Sat., Oct. 7.
The SUNY Delhi women’s volleyball team closed out their 2017 season on Sat., Oct. 28 hosting the NIAC Championship against Maine Fort Kent and Fisher in Floyd L. Maines Arena. The tournament followed a round-robin format, with the Broncos falling to the eventual champion Maine Fort Kent, 3-0, in close sets, after which they battled Fisher to four sets, coming up short in a 3-1 defeat.
The competition also saw the unveiling of the All-NIAC team, where two players from each of the participating schools were recognized for outstanding seasons. Maslanka and freshman Taylor Tsatsis were honored for Delhi. Maslanka finished her junior campaign leading the Broncos with 184 kills, as well as breaking the school career kills record with 578.
