This past week, members of the Warwick High School indoor track and field team triumphed at the Section IX Championships. The girls’ 4×800 team consisting of Katherine Smith, Lauren Fox, Genevieve Reilly, and Kaeli Thompson won with a time of 9:52.20. Also finishing in first place was Warwick’s Thomas Gardiner in the 1k event, getting the State Standard and a personal best of 2:33.79. Gardiner is now the number five in this event in school history.
Kaeli Thompson continues to set personal records for herself and the Section Championships were no exception, as she pole vaulted at 12 feet, 8 inches. This win earned her the MVP of the event as well as an all time record for the Section IX Championships.
Meanwhile the boys’ basketball team won against Washingtonville during their “Senior Night.” The overall score was 63 for the Wildcats and 52 for the Wizards. Zac Goldstein, with 24 points, and Connor Perez, with 18, led their team to this Division 2 win.
In swimming, Chris Sommer and Christian Strangeby have qualified for the NYSPHSAA Championships. This event will take place on Fri., Mar. 2 at the Nassau Aquatics Center in Long Island.
