Steven Mehling came to Warwick Valley H.S. football coach Greg Sirico in March of last year and told him he thought he could help the football team. Six months later, Mehling’s 33 yard field goal as time expired was the difference in the Wildcats 17-14 win over Minisink Valley in front of a home crowd of over 3,000 fans.
Patrick Tully’s snap was on the money to Nick Garcia and the rest is another chapter in the history of Warwick Football. Warwick’s Harrison Parrelli rushed for 210 yards on 28 carries, scoring two touchdowns and the extra point for the team. Warwick bounced back from a loss last week at Newburgh to improve their record to 5-1.
The Defense played an outstanding game, led by a strong performance by the defensive line and linebackers. Jason Hranitz forced a key fumble in the third quarter recovered by Andrew Wiezbicki and Connor Perez intercepted a pass that led to a score. Warwick will be at Valley Central Fri., Oct. 13 for a 7:30 p.m. kick off.
