The Warwick H.S. varsity football team rallied back from a nine point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Washingtonville, 42-35, on Sat., Sept. 23 at the C.A. Morgan Field in front of a home crowd of nearly 3,000 fans.
Warwick quarterback Jared Senius completed 13 of 21 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns, including two to senior Connor Perez, who had five receptions for 127 yards and an interception return for a touchdown.
Harrison Parrelli led the Wildcat ground attack with 23 carries for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Senius completed a key two point conversion to Zach Ripp in the fourth quarter to increase the margin to seven.
The Wildcat defense was paced by Robbie Maslanka and Sean English, both with over ten tackles. Kyle Rooney had a key interception in the fourth quarter to set up the Wildcats final score. The team totaled four sacks and six quarterback pressures, led by Dan McNally’s two sacks. Captains Nick Fotino, Jason Hranitz, Andrew Wiezbicki, and Connor Perez kept the team focused and never lost faith as the Wildcats were down nine points in the fourth quarter.
The special teams were led by Steven Mehling, who converted two of three extra points and punter Joe Miller, who totaled 97 yards on two punts. Eric Ormsby pinned the Wizards deep with seven kick-offs totaling 341 yards, including one touchback. Nick Garcia made two tackles on kick-off.
The Wildcats will play non-conference opponent Newburgh Free Academy on Thurs., Sept. 28 at NFA’s Goldback Stadium.
