It took a goal line stand on a two point conversion attempt for the Warwick Valley H.S. football team to hold off the Valley Central Vikings in a non–league victory on Fri., Sept. 7 at Viking Field in Montgomery, NY.
Warwick High School’s Grant Dolshun, Trey Pinkham, Rob Maslanka and Dean Dulgerian met the Valley Central running back in the hole to finish the game and hold onto a 14–13 win. Warwick’s defense was on its mark holding the high-powered Valley Central offense to 13 points. The Wildcats were led by Matt Houlihan with 11 tackles; Matt Hansen and Robert Maslanka, who had 10 tackles each; and Nicky Garcia with seven tackles.
Kyle Rooney and Joe Miller combined for the two touchdowns. Matt Meade was perfect two-for-two on extra point conversions. Gregory Sirico converted a big third down with a 30 yard reception, while Joey Fotino’s 30 yard run put the Wildcats in scoring position.
The offensive line of Andre Ward, Nate Felix and company paced the way to over 226 rushing yards. Nicky Garcia held onto an outside kick attempt to secure the win.
Warwick Beats Middletown
Last week the Warwick football team rallied back from an 18–7 halftime deficit to defeat Middletown, 21–18. The team’s defense was paced by Robert Maslanka and Matt Houlihan, who each contributed 11 tackles. Houlihan’s interception set up a Wildcat touchdown in the first half of the game. Grant Dolshun, Will Noteboom, Trey Pinkham, Patrick Tully, Dan Rodriguez, and the rest of the defensive linemen held the Middie Bear offense to 60 yards in the second half.
Warwick’s offense was led by Joe Miller and Kyle Rooney, who combined for 220 yards rushing and three touchdowns behind outstanding offensive line play. Nate Felix, Matt Space, Andre Ward, Trey Pinkham, Logan Hickey, and Parker Kardell were key contributors to the Wildcat rushing attack. Matt Meade’s extra point was important in the Wildcats margin of victory.
Warwick has a nine consecutive home game win streak in place. Warwick will be at home on Sat., Sept. 15 for the big Homecoming Game, with a 1:30 p.m. kick off. Halftime will feature the Warwick Football Hall of Fame Inductions of Jose Guadalupe 67’, Jack DeGraw 67’ and Anthony Mann 92’.
