This past week the Warwick Valley H.S. girls’ variety basketball team celebrated their Senior Night and finished out the regular season with a win over Pine Bush, 37-17. This success gave them a chance to prove themselves at the Class AA Quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals on Mon., Feb. 26, they played against Middletown at home. At the half, Warwick was up, 22-11, with senior Emily Welling leading with 14 points. Senior Lauren Desrats also scored two three-pointers for her team during the first half, which earned the team another six points before the half was up.
While Warwick stayed alert for the second half of the game, Middletown was aggressive with the ball and proved to be a worthy adversary. Warwick kept the lead with Desrats scoring two more three-pointers and Welling earning 22 points in total. With great defense, impressive skills and overall stellar teamwork on the court, the Lady Wildcats beat out the competition with a final score of 38-22.
With this win, the girls’ move on to the next round of finals against Washingtonville on Thurs., Mar. 1 at 6 p.m. at Warwick Valley H.S., located at 89 Sanfordville Rd. in Warwick, NY.
