Four WVHS Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

     The Warwick Valley Central School District has announced that four Warwick Valley High School athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend colleges and universities.

Gabriella Rusek

     Gabriella is a senior Soccer player and will attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and compete for the Miami Hurricanes in Women’s College Soccer.

     Gabriella is a five-year Varsity Player and a four-year starter for the three-time Division Champions; a three-time Section IX All Star, and a two-time All State Player as Center Midfielder. Her 2018 season included 19 goals and 12 assists, and she is one of Warwick’s most accomplished soccer players in school history.

     Gabriella plans to study Mathematics and International Affairs. Her academic accomplishments include a grade point average (GPA) of 99.8, ranking in the top 10% of her class; five years as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar-Athlete; a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society.

     She is the daughter of Henry and Anna Rusek of Warwick.  Her brother Nicholas is a senior at Tennessee where he competes as a varsity diver. Matthew is a medical student at St. Georges of Grenada.

Devin Boone

     Devin is a senior two-sport student-athlete, who plays football and baseball. He will attend Marist College of Poughkeepsie, New York and compete as a middle infielder for the Marist Foxes.

     Devin is a three-year Varsity starter and middle infielder for Warwick Baseball, whose stats include a .409 batting average, an on-base percentage of .529, 29 stolen bases, 49 runs scored, and a .897 fielding percentage.

     He was a Times-Herald Record All Star for Baseball, a World Wood Bat Association All Star and competed in the WWBA Championships in Florida.

     Devin plans to study Business and Finance. He has a weighted GPA of 92.7, is ranked in the top 30% of his class and received NYSPHSAA Scholar – Athlete Status for baseball and football where he started as a defensive back for the Wildcats in 2019.

     Devin is the son of Lisa and Curtis Boone of Warwick.  His sister Candice is a 2007 graduate of Warwick HS and is currently working as a nurse.

Brandon Ortiz

     Brandon is a senior Student-Athlete playing baseball for the Wildcats. He will attend Binghamton University and compete as a Middle Infielder for the Binghamton Bearcats.

     He is a five-year Varsity player with a fielding percentage of over .900 as a junior; an outstanding leader and Captain of the infield; and has played every inning for the past two seasons for the varsity, which won two Division titles during that time.

     Brandon plans to study Business Administration and his academic accomplishments include a GPA of 87.6. He is Vice President of the Spanish Club, and his Senior Project centers around a Baseball Camp for Youth.

     He is the son of William and Maria Ortiz of Warwick.  His brother William Ortiz is a WVHS alum and earned a Criminal Justice Degree from Oneonta.

Hannah Hennessy

     Hannah is a senior who will attend James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia to play softball for JMU Dukes.

     She was a four-year Varsity starter and centerfielder for the Section IX Champion Warwick Wildcats. She batted .450 as junior with a team leading 18 RBIs; a Varsity-845 and Section IX First Team All Star Selection as centerfielder, and led the team in fielding percentage 1000% (Perfect) with no errors as a junior.

     Hannah plans to study psychology, and her academic accomplishments include a GPA of 93; ranked in the top 25% of her class; a four-year NYSPHSAA Scholar – Athlete, and a member of the National Honor Society.

     She is the daughter of Kelly and Michael Hennessy of Warwick.  Her sister Grace is a standout athlete for the Wildcats. Her brother Michael is a seventh grader in Warwick MS.
