G.L. Community Remembers Trooper Eric Nicholson

For the 18th year, the Greenwood Lake community came together to remember and honor fellow Laker, South Carolina State Trooper and US Marine Corp Veteran Eric Nicholson. Eric was killed 19 years ago in the line of duty on Dec. 6, 2000 in South Carolina.  On Sat., Dec. 7, a blood drive was held in Eric’s honor.

Eric’s mother, Anne, coordinates with the G.L. Ambulance Corps, and together they organize an annual blood drive in his honor. Eric grew up in Greenwood Lake with his parents, Anne and John, and his sister, Amy. The morning he passed away, Eric donated blood before heading to work, so now Eric’s mother organizes a blood drive to commemorate what her son did that morning.

Eric was always helping others, something that came naturally to him. Growing up in Greenwood Lake, Eric was loved by all, and was a great son, brother, friend and husband. Eric’s wife, Misty, organizes a blood drive in South Carolina each year in honor of her late husband.

The impact Eric had on people’s lives was evident by the outpouring of support and donors who filled the G.L. Ambulance Building. The community continues to feel the loss of their friend, many sharing stories, photos, and memories on the anniversary.

Anne said, “I thank the Greenwood Lake community and the Greenwood Lake Ambulance Corps for all their continued support in remembering and honoring Eric each year. It’s a wonderful community with great people.”
