The first winter storm of the season arrived this past Sunday. A bit of a mess with icy conditions and a long period of precipitation. It’s Sunday evening as I write this column and the reports indicate that the storm will go through the entire evening and most of tomorrow. Our Public Works Department has been salting and sanding throughout the day and are prepared for whatever turn the storm may take. It is no easy task to be prepared for a winter storm; our men have shown over and over their ability and commitment to protect our community. The first storm is always stressful, but we get through it because of the care and hard work of our Department of Public Works.
The Holiday Season has begun! Last week the Warwick Valley Gardeners had their annual tree lighting event on Railroad Green and this past Friday the Warwick Fire Department had a tree lighting at Lewis Park. Both trees are beautiful- the Gardener’s tree is wintery, white and elegant and the Firemen’s tree bright and colorful, a shining symbol of the holiday season and a reminder of their celebratory year.
It was a busy post Thanksgiving weekend in the Village. Shoppers were out in force, Boy Scouts were selling wreaths on corners and with the sunny but chilly weather, it was very much a Warwick moment. This a season of events so watch local calendars, read our local newspapers and listen to our local radio. A little plug, I co-host a weekly radio show in WTBQ, WGHT, called “Village Life” that airs Thursdays at 11:00.
Village Hall is a drop off for the Orange County sponsored Toy Drive. Please participate! New unwrapped toys can be left in the large box in the lobby.
