Supervisor Sweeton: WVMS Hosts Valentine’s for Vets; “Team Up for Hope” is Formed

Local News News & Updates

I had the honor recently to attend the “Valentines for Vets” breakfast organized by the students and staff of the Warwick Middle School.  What a wonderful, moving expression of gratitude by these young people who not only serenaded the Veterans with music and song but served them a full breakfast, made them Valentine’s Day cards, as well as taking time to ask questions of each Vet. It made me very proud of these youngsters, as well as the amazing teachers and administrators of this fine district.  America’s future is bright indeed!

Once again Warwickians take on the challenges of our age.  Geoff and Amy Green have formed a new 501(c)(3) not for profit called “Team up for Hope” to bring awareness and hopefully solutions to the opioid addiction crisis, suicide, as well as those suffering from mental health issues.  This organization will use its business skills to raise awareness of the many organizations that are available to help you or someone you know deal with these conditions.  For more information or to help, visit their website at www.teamupforhope.org.

Our Country is embarking on the very important task of conducting the 2020 census.  Accurate counts of our citizens is crucial to ensure we receive back to us our fair share of taxes we send the Federal government.  It will also determine our representation in Congress. If you would like to help by being a census worker, please call 1-855-JOB-2020 to sign up.

A public hearing entitled “Community Development 2021 HUD Grant Project Solicitation” will be held on Thurs., Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Highway.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thurs., Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick.

The above column, written by Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, has been published in the Feb. 19 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
