Warwick Cares: Restoring Australia’s Wildlife

Local News News & Updates

On Mon., Feb. 24, two Warwick Valley Middle School students, Olivia and Connor Holland, are hosting a fundraiser to benefit the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) – Australia at Halligan’s Public House, located at 22 West St. in Warwick.

From 5:30 to 9 p.m., 10% of each family’s dining bill will be generously donated to the WWF which helps recover and care for injured animals and helps to restore their habitat. The students have also designed a T-shirt that will be sold that night, a percentage of which will also be donated to the WWF.

Since September, more than 17.9 million acres have burned across Australia (more than half the size of the entire state of New York). Approximately 1.25 billion animals have been killed, and the koala population alone has decreased by a third. Additionally, at least a third of their habitats have been destroyed.

The Hollands were inspired to help Australia because of their love of animals and a desire to help their cousins who live in Australia.

“We want to thank Halligan’s for being so generous and for believing in this cause,” stated Olivia.
