This week we celebrate National Nurses Week. In the midst of a pandemic health crisis, it’s clear more than ever the heroes that make up this profession. These men and women on the front lines are remarkable for what they do on a daily basis. Their care for human life and dedication to patients is only a part of their strength and commitment.
They are the important connection from patient to doctor, they are the empathetic ear and soul of the medical profession. To the public, they seem fierce and tireless, but they are human and at the end of a shift have to go home to families to provide – so there is little room to break away, to rest. If scrubs were capes, they are our superheroes! They bring intelligence, support, and sometimes essential humor to situations that are difficult.
During this extraordinary time, when families are not present for the last moments of a loved one, a nurse is the one to hold a hand, to comfort and to be a giving, caring provider, and surrogate family. Challenge and crisis define our strengths and test our abilities. The COVID-19 virus has been that for the entire medical profession but specifically, our nurses are the force and glue that allow for smooth and ongoing operations.
As a community, we say thank you. We are grateful and blessed for your service. You represent a spirit that inspires us, and we hope that you realize how much you mean to us. You remain one of our most treasured assets.

Farm to Village!
The beloved Warwick Valley Farmers’ Market will open this Sun., May 10 (Mother’s Day) at the South Street Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is retrofitted for social distancing. Customers must wear masks and limited numbers will be allowed into the market at a time. Thank you to the Farmers’ Market Committee for bringing this important activity and connection to our local farmers and producers. It is a glimmer of hope after some difficult days.
