Warwick FD: Smoke Detectors Save Lives

Local News News & Updates

Story by Michael Contaxis,

1st Assistant Chief Warwick Fire Department

The Warwick Fire Department (WFD) has responded to 113 calls for service to date as of Sun., May 3.

Smoke Detectors Save Lives! Thank you to the installation of working smoke detectors in a home in the Village of Warwick this week. The homeowners were awakened to the sound of the detectors when their home was full of smoke due to an electrical fire that occurred from an electrical short from a rechargeable remote-control car.

The homeowners were able to safely evacuate their family and to safely extinguish the fire. Warwick firefighters were on scene within minutes to mitigate and safely secure the residence. Without the use of working smoke detectors and the quick action of the family, this could have been a worse incident.  A tragedy has been averted and the Warwick Fire Department cleared without incident.

May is National Electrical Safety Month

May is National Electrical Safety Month and a smart home isn’t just about installing wireless speakers, smart thermostats, home security cameras, and automatic lighting throughout your home. It’s about the lifesaving devices that provide peace of mind while at home and away. This month is National Electrical Safety Month and the Warwick Fire Prevention Team is educating consumers about the steps they can take in order to reduce electrically-related fires, fatalities, injuries, and property loss.

Happy Mother’s Day
