Albert Wisner Library Offers Summer Programs

The Albert Wisner Public Library, currently closed to the public due to the ongoing coronavirus health situation will be offering a variety of Virtual Summer Reading and Activity Programs with offerings for all ages.  Note that items may need to be picked up curbside from the library, located at 1 McFarland Dr. in order to participate.

Registration for the following programs began on Sat., June 6 on the library’s website, www.albertwisnerlibrary.org on the Children’s and Tween’s virtual library page. An email will be necessary so the organizers can send Zoom links when needed. See the library website for all program details at www.albertwisnerlibrary.org

Summer Reading BINGO

Preschool-grade 2: Activities with stickers including a bag with prizes and a ticket to Family Drive-In Movie Night. 

Grades 3 to 5: Reading/literacy activities to receive a backpack with prizes and a ticket to Family Drive-In Movie Night.

Family Drive-In Movie Night will be held at the Warwick Drive-In, located at 5 Warwick Tpk., in Warwick, on Wed., Aug, 5. More information is available on the library website.

Monday Family Craft Nights

Grades K through 4: Crafts will be “take and make”; items will be picked up curbside at the library. On Mon., July 6, pick up materials to decorate a journal.  On Mon., July 20, create a small masterpiece on canvas to display on a little stand. On Mon., Aug. 3 jewelry making materials will be offered for a bracelet.

Special Events

The Amazing ChaseA Family Scavenger Hunt Game – Thurs., June 25 – Sat., June 27:   Fun for all ages. Form a team with family members. This is an interactive community game where teams will complete missions, earn points and win prizes. Sharing photos/videos on a private AWPL Children’s Facebook page is required, participants will need an active Facebook page and a camera (smartphone camera is fine). One member from each team should register using a current email address which will be used in the game.

Fuzzy Friend Campout: Wed., July 15 at 5:30 p.m. with Miss Teresa. Hear some bedtime stories, build a tent shelter or fort. 

Art with Miss Judy: Join Miss Judy for a virtual demonstration on the Children’s private Facebook page. On Sun., July 12, Paint a Cat or Dog Using Watercolors; watercolor set will be provided. On Sun., July 26, Collage Using newspaper & magazines.

Pet Show & Tell on Zoom:  Fri., July 10, 11 a.m. Introduce everyone to your pet or favorite stuffed animal. Email needed to receive a Zoom link before the show.

Talent Show:  Fri., July 24, 11 a.m.  Sing, dance, or do a magic trick! Email needed to receive a Zoom link before the show.

Show us your creativity! Fri., Aug. 7, 11 a.m.: Painting, construction, sculpture, all types of creativity. Email needed to receive a Zoom link before the show.

Tween Tuesdays

Provide an active email to receive a Zoom links before the class. All classes take place on Tuesday.

Pictionary Online, July 7, 5:30–6:30 p.m.: Choose from three words, draw your word, and see if others can guess. You’ll need a laptop or tablet to play.

Beaded Lizard Keychains, July 14, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Make a beaded keychain to hang on your backpack; library will supply the kit.

My Crazy Journal: July 21, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Try writing with your food! Interview a vegetable! Design a postage stamp! Use any kind of notebook, drawing and painting supplies.

Scattergories Online, July 28, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Select a category and a letter. 

Papier Maché Boxes: August 4, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Turn a plain box into a jewel with library supplied materials. Add your own, too. You’ll need Elmer’s or School Glue.

Virtual Performers Page Turners Adventures Virtual Summer Library Programs 

Ten weeks of comedy, crafts, recipes, author interviews, guest performers, games and more! Posted Mondays beginning June 15 on AWPL’s private Children’s Facebook page. Email warkids@rcls.org to request to be added to the private group, providing your name, library card and barcode number.

Traveling Lantern Theatre Company, Thurs., July 16 at 6:45 p.m.: Legends & Myths from Mt. Olympus. From their perch on Mt. Olympus, the Gods of ancient Greece spin their magic into fantastic landscapes while conjuring cunning exploits for the humans they have chosen to meddle with far below. For children and adults.  Provide an active email to receive the Zoom link in advance.

Imagination Express with Steve the Magic Conductor, Sat, July 18 at 11 a.m.: A magical program that makes books disappear, clocks appear, and with a little imagination, fairytales come true! For families. You will be provided a YouTube link before the performance.

Sciencetellers – Dragons: Return of the Ice Sorceress, Thurs., July 30 at 6:45 p.m.: Two brave villagers go on a journey to release the dragons and save the kingdom from the Ice Sorceress. For families. Provide an active email to receive the Zoom link in advance.

Storycrafters – Just Imagine! Thurs., Aug. 6 at 6:45 p.m.: Traditional and modern renditions of classic fairytales, folktales and myths. 

Storytimes & Music

Storytimes & Music do NOT require registration. All will be released weekly beginning Mon., July 6 on the Children’s private Facebook page, and in the weekly e-newsletters.

Toddler Time with Miss Stacy; Preschool Learn & Play with Miss Teresa; Storytime Yoga with Miss Karen; Cooking Together with Miss Teresa; Music with Mr. Matt; and Tales & Tunes with Mr. Matt – a classic tale with an accompanying song to sing along!
