Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C-Deerpark) introduced a proposal aimed at repealing the green light law, which currently allows undocumented immigrants in New York state to apply for and receive a driver’s license. Unfortunately, the bill was struck down in committee and will not make it to the Assembly floor for a vote.
“The Democrats’ push for the green light law continues to undermine the rule of law and put the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of law-abiding New Yorkers,” said Brabenec. “This policy makes our communities less safe and weakens the integrity of our elections by giving noncitizens the ability to vote. It’s time for leadership that protects New Yorkers first.”
Brabenec also emphasized the need to support law enforcement in protecting public safety. “Granting licenses to individuals here illegally complicates the work of our police and hinders their ability to enforce the law,” he said. “We must give law enforcement the tools they need to keep our communities safe.”
