Q & A with Deputy Brian Kelly # 150

Police and Fire

How long have you worked at the Sheriff’s Office? I’ve been here for almost 6 years.

Where did you start in Law Enforcement?  I started at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office I 2012. Then I went to the Village of Goshen for 7 years before coming back to the SO in 2021.

What made you want to become a Deputy Sheriff? I come from a family of dedicated public servants. My dad, uncles and both grandfathers were either NYPD or FDNY.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The most rewarding part of my job is the having the opportunity to positively influence someone’s life on a daily basis, whether that be a fellow employee or someone I come in contact with while on duty.

What is the hardest part of your job? Definitely, the hardest calls are responding to people who are experiencing a mental health crisis. I always want to be the one to help them, but I know, I might not be the person that can help in that situation.

What is one character trait that helps you as a Deputy Sheriff? Why? My friendly personality and demeanor. It allows me to have fun with my job and with my coworkers even after the most stressful days.

Fun fact about you: I have a twin brother.

What is your favorite sport and team? Ice Hockey- it’s the only sport I ever played. My favorite team is the New York Rangers, of course.
