Judge Richard Guertin retires after decades of presiding in Orange County.

Goshen, NY – Sheriff Arteta proudly honored Judge Richard Guertin for his decades of dedication and service to the  people of Orange County as he leaves the benches of Orange County Court to enjoy retirement.  

Judge Guertin spent decades as a City of Middletown Court Judge. He presided over misdemeanor criminal  cases, traffic matters, city code violations, and civil cases within the city’s jurisdiction on a local level. He  transitioned to an Orange County Court Judge in 2023, where he spent the last years of his career. As a  County Court Judge, he presided over felony criminal cases and civil matters and selected family and  surrogate proceedings within the county. 

Judge Guertin has built a distinguished career in Orange County. His deep knowledge of the law, compassion,  and commitment to the people he serves have been a great asset to Orange County. Sheriff Arteta added  “Judge Guertin has served our county with honor and fairness. He has left a lasting impact, and we are  deeply grateful for his service. On behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, I wish him the very best in his well-earned  retirement.” Throughout his years of leadership on the bench, he has proudly dedicated himself to  strengthening the community, ensuring fairness in the courtroom, and upholding the values of justice with  integrity and respect.
