Q & A with Investigator C. Tulp

Police and Fire

How long have you worked at the Sheriff’s Office? 5 Years.

Where did you start in Law Enforcement?  I worked for the NY State Department of Corrections for 2 years and 4 years with the Town of Wallkill PD before transferring to the Sheriff’s Office in 2020.

What made you want to become a Deputy Sheriff?  Increased opportunities for specialized units and promotions.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?  Working with outside agencies on large-scale cases.

What is the hardest part of your job?  Arresting the same people over and over.  Bail reform in NYS has crippled Law Enforcement across the State.  It’s difficult to answer questions from victims who ask why perpetrators aren’t going to jail.

What is one character trait that helps you as a Deputy Sheriff? Why?  I’m very calm under pressure and in stressful situations.

Fun fact about you:  I am full-time assigned to the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force.  I work with a team of Investigators from around the Southern District of NY. (Westchester County PD, Yonkers PD, City of Poughkeepsie PD, NYS Parole, NYSP, US Marshals).

What is your favorite sport and team?   I don’t follow many sports because of my own personal opinions, but my favorite sport to play is softball.  I have recently been introduced to the most American sport, NASCAR! My favorite driver is Kyle Larson #5.
