Hey Orange County!
With the first week of school behind us, I’m excited to share some wonderful updates happening across our community. Education is such an important element of success, and this past week Orange Ulster BOCES took a great step in furthering education here in Orange County. I was honored to help cut the ribbon on its brand-new North Wing at Arden Hill Campus. This incredible facility now features 27 modern classrooms, each equipped with smart boards and the latest technology. Where the former Arden Hill Hospital once stood, BOCES has created new opportunities for students from across the County. It’s a project that strengthens both education and our workforce, and I’m proud of the work that my friend, Deb Heppes and her Team at BOCES does. Join me in applauding this and celebrating this achievement, it’s truly a big win for our entire community.
Continuing with the theme of education, I want to wish a fantastic back-to-school season to all our Orange County students. A special shoutout to our outstanding summer interns, Christian, Robert, and Naté. From drafting press releases to attending community events and ribbon cuttings, these three gained valuable hands-on experience in County government. It was a pleasure to host them in our office, and I have no doubt that bright futures await each of them. Best of luck this year, you’ve already made us proud!
While students gear up for success, our seniors also have exciting news to celebrate. I’m proud to join Danielle Diana-Smith, Director of the Office for the Aging, in launching GoGoGrandparent, a free ride service for residents ages 60 and over. With just a quick phone call to register, seniors can schedule safe, reliable rides to doctor’s appointments, community events, and more. This program is about keeping our older residents connected, active, and independent. I encourage you to watch our video on Facebook to see how it works and share it with others who might benefit.

I am proud to work hard to celebrate and preserve our County’s wonderful natural spaces and resources. In the latest episode of Blueprint Orange, I sat down with Horticulturist Peter Patel and Parks Commissioner Travis Ewald to highlight the beauty and importance of the Orange County Arboretum. Located in Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery, the Arboretum offers stunning gardens, seasonal displays, and year-round natural beauty. It’s open daily and is free of charge. Just remember to drive directly up to the gate and just drive up to the gate, and it will open for you. Whether for family outings, peaceful walks, or quiet reflection, it’s truly one of our County’s treasures. You can catch Episode 2 of Blueprint Orange now on the Orange County Government YouTube channel or on my Facebook page.
Whether you’re already a fan of the Arboretum or you’ve never been, you won’t want to miss one of its most magical traditions, the 2025 Fairy Festival! On Sunday, September 14th from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., families are invited for an afternoon of crafts, stories, and games. Costumes are encouraged, fun is guaranteed, and admission is just $5 per person. Bring your wings, bring your friends, and make lasting memories in a truly enchanting setting in our County.
September is also a time for giving back. On Tuesday, September 17th, I’ll be serving as one of the celebrity bartenders at Fun-Raising in the Vineyard at Christopher Jacobs Winery at Pennings Vineyards in Pine Bush. This event supports HONOR, a nonprofit that has been making a difference in the Hudson Valley since 1974 by providing housing, crisis intervention, counseling, and so much more. Thank you to Here’s Help Staffing & Recruiting for putting this wonderful evening together. I hope you can join us to help raise some funds for a great cause.
Community pride has been on full display lately, and I truly enjoy being out and about with so many of you. I recently joined Orange County Clerk Kelly Eskew and Troop 236 along the parade route in Montgomery. Of course, no trip to Montgomery is complete without a stop at Corey’s Pickles, a fantastic small business with the best pickles around! Thank you to all the parade organizers, as well as Garry from Warwick, who drove me along the route. The day was filled with energy, smiles, and an incredible turnout, all the things that contribute to making Orange County such a special place to call home.
As you can see, September is shaping up to be a busy month filled with opportunities to learn, celebrate, and connect. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events… Around the County!
