Skoufis Announces Beginning of Route 17 Re-Paving
Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) announced the start of work on the long-awaited Route 17 repaving project. Scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 24, five miles of road between Exit 119 and Exit 116 will be milled and paved, improving conditions for drivers from the Wallkill/Middletown area to the border with Sullivan County.
“This stretch of Route 17 has been in very rough shape for too long, so I am thrilled this length of road will be made safer and more comfortable for drivers,” said Senator Skoufis. “Complaints about the condition of state roads do not fall on deaf ears. I hear them, and I agree. I will continue to fight for more resources and more support. This project is one of many I hope to see completed in the near future.”
To ameliorate traffic delays, the work will take place between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Temporary ramp closures will be put in place as resurfacing advances along the road and message signs will be posted to direct drivers to alternate routes. Work is scheduled to be completed in early October.
