Defendant who pleaded guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison and 20 Years post-release supervision.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Elser Anibal Ramirez-Mejia, age 28, of the Town of Newburgh, was sentenced to twelve (12) years in prison and twenty (20) years of post-release supervision in connection to his previous guilty plea in Orange County Court to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree. As part of the sentence, Ramirez-Mejia will also be registered as a sex offender under the New York Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA).
At the time he pled guilty on July 31, 2025, Ramirez-Mejia admitted that between September 1, 2019 and September 30, 2022 he engaged in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a child who was less than eleven years old.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Town of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation and the arrest of the defendant.
“I am gratified that that we were able to ensure that this defendant’s repulsive conduct was met with a lengthy prison sentence, while at the same time sparing the survivor the ordeal of having to testify publicly.” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Children are, of course, the most innocent of victims. All who suffer the trauma of sexual abuse deserve our support. I hope that this resolution brings some measure of closure to the victim, and the victim’s family and loved ones. My Office will continue to provide support for child victims and all victims of sexual assault and seek to hold offenders accountable for their actions.”
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation by the police that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
