Sheriff-Photo-2--e1708695452816 OCSO Competes in 2025 Connecticut SWAT ChallengeLast month, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group (SOG) competed in the prestigious Connecticut SWAT Challenge. They joined 27 tactical teams from across the country for interagency competitions.  This year marked the second time SOG has participated, and each year exceeded their expectations.

The CT SWAT Challenge brings together specially trained high-risk teams, such as SWAT and special operations/response units, to test their skills in timed and head-to-head events across multiple disciplines: officer rescue, sniper challenge, shoot house scenarios, long physical endurance courses, and marksmanship under duress.  These challenges are designed to push teams to their operational limits within boundaries.

SOG’s participation in this event is more than just participation for a win. It is an opportunity to build stronger camaraderie and trust among teammates while learning and growing together.

One of our SOG members, Sergeant Brian Kelly, described the challenge as one of the most difficult and grueling physical competitions he has competed in, emphasizing that the shooting challenges tested the participants both physically and mentally, while testing every ounce of skill.

The OCSO plans to participate in the CT Challenge again, applying the lessons learned from 2025 to improve their tactics and teamwork. Their involvement not only enhances their own unit but also strengthens the wider tactical community across state lines.

I am incredibly proud of our Special Operations Group for completing and representing our agency at such a high level. Their dedication to training and improving their skills ensures they are always ready to protect and serve our community.
