Hans Altidor Expected to be Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison
Defendant has 2 Prior Convictions for Gun-Point Robberies
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Hans Altidor, 56, of Poughkeepsie, pled guilty in Orange County Court to Robbery in the First Degree. Under the plea agreement announced on the record at the time that Altidor pled guilty, it is expected that he will be sentenced to twenty (20) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years post-release supervision when he is sentenced on April 30, 2026.
As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, on July 22, 2025 at approximately 2:09 a.m., Altidor entered a gas station on Route 9W in the Town of Newburgh wearing a mask and holding a pistol. Altidor pointed the pistol at the cashier and demanded money. He fired a single round past the cashier into the wall before going behind the counter, stealing $1,400 from the register and fleeing out the front door. During the course of the investigation, the police identified a vehicle used by Altidor after the robbery. He later admitted to police that he had committed the robbery. A judicially-authorized search warrant was executed at his residence which resulted in the recovery of the gun and clothing used in the robbery and the proceeds which were found wrapped in a latex glove. At the plea proceedings, Altidor admitted to forcibly stealing property and in the course of the commission of the crime or immediate flight therefrom, displayed what appeared to be a pistol.
District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Town of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Altidor. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the New York State Police for their assistance during the investigation.
“Violent recidivists are crime drivers whose criminal conduct demands that they be separated from society,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “The two-decade sentence expected in this case accounts for both the dangerous nature of this defendant’s admitted conduct, as well as the lengthy nature of his criminal history. We must protect our communities from violent offenders through proactive policing, thorough investigations and dedicated prosecution.”
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Purcell.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
