It’s hard to overstate the contribution our senior citizens make to our communities. They are assets to our families – caretakers, advisors, mediators, historians, and often the most stalwart and generous volunteers in our cities, towns, and villages.
To that end, ensuring they can retain their independence as they age is a key to their quality of life. Orange County municipalities work hard to create opportunities for seniors in their communities, and I was thrilled to join local seniors and elected officials to announce $717,000 in funding for Orange County senior centers owned by local municipalities.
Cornwall, Middletown, Wallkill, New Windsor, Deerpark, Hamptonburgh, Mount Hope, Warwick, Blooming Grove, Highland Falls, Woodbury, and Florida are among those receiving grants – all the senior centers in our Senate District owned by their local city, town or village – going directly towards a variety of improvements. Select projects being funded include a vehicle for senior transportation, a new generator, window replacements, renovations for entrance steps with ADA-compliant railings, roof replacement, restroom upgrades, and kitchen renovations.
It’s wonderful to deliver this funding, and I look forward to seeing the renovations and upgrades to facilities across the county.
