David Rombousek Charged with Intentional Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Thursday, February 19, 2026, David Rombousek, age 26, of Port Jervis, was arraigned in Orange County Court on an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree for having allegedly shot a man to death in the City of Port Jervis on February 15, 2026.

As alleged in documents filed and statements made in court, Rombousek fired multiple shots at a man from an illegally possessed firearm at approximately 12:30 a.m. on February 15 on Hammond Street in the City of Port Jervis.  The man was found to have multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was transported to Bon Secours Hospital where he later died.  Rombousek was taken into custody later that day after an extensive investigation by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.  At the arraignment, Rombousek was remanded back to the Orange County Jail without bail and is next scheduled for a conference on March 20, 2026.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Port Jervis Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of the defendant.  District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the New York State Police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center and the staff of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.

“The senseless violence allegedly perpetrated in this case is as tragic as it is needless,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “I thank all of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and all hands efforts to locate the defendant which ultimately resulted in his apprehension.  We will now pursue justice on behalf of the family and friends of the victim, and our community at large.”

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Trial Assistant District Attorney Richard Moran.

This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
