Please refer to Tim Hull’s letter to the Warwick Valley Dispatch August 21st issue for the sake of our town. He eloquently documents the historical significance of Pulpit Rock formerly owned by the Pennings Family Trust.
Jacob and Johanna were approached by the Warwick Library search committee as a possible site for a new Albert Wisner Library. They were offered $125,000 for the nine acres of the “Pulpit Rock Piece.” I encouraged them to respond at $150,000 and the Library committee agreed. The contracts were issued. But then the local citizenry got involved.
Our local citizens determined that the new library should remain in the Village of Warwick so that people could walk to the new library.
My parents were dismayed that the Warwick school children were overlooked as sidewalks to the Village along West St. would have given our students that availability of an additional facility to walk to and grow in their studies.
Of course we now know the outcome of the location of the Albert Wisner Library. So our family left Pulpit Rock as the end sale of the family trust. The Green Team took on the listing with great consternation. I encourage our local citizenry to quickly raise funds to buy out the present owner. A hotel in front of Pulpit Rock is an insult to all of us in Warwick.
