The Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation announces and congratulates the recipients of its 13th annual college scholarship essay competition. The three recipients, Ashley Emanuel, Abigail Gurvich and Paige Kent, are all seniors at Warwick Valley High School.
The topic assigned this year was: Indicate a character in a fictional book or an actual historical figure who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.
Ashley, who is bound for Boston College to pursue international studies and pre-law; Abigail, who plans to study biology and creative writing at SUNY New Paltz; and Paige, who is headed to Union College in Schenectady, NY to study biomedical engineering, will each receive $1,000 toward their college tuition.
Warwick residents and generous Library supporters Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes have offered two scholarships since the inception of the competition in 2007. C. Hope Arber added a third scholarship in 2012. The competition is open to all college-bound high school seniors who reside in the Warwick Valley Central School District, regardless of which school they attend and including home-schooled students. Next year’s essay topic will be announced in January 2020.
