Family Central, a non-profit parenting support network in Warwick, will host their first “Ladybug Picnic,” a family-friendly event on Sat., Jun. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pine Island Town Park, located on Kay Rd. in Pine Island. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and food and enjoy the many activities being planned.
The Greenwood Lake Garden Center will be on hand to educate everyone on the important role that ladybugs play in the environment. There will be a live release of ladybugs into the pollinator garden at the park. Local musician, Carlos Cardona, will be on hand, playing popular tunes on his guitar for all to enjoy. Visitors can bring an instrument and create music circles on the fly.
Family Central will be creating “bug hotels” while the Warwick Playground Dreams group will be on hand crafting seed bombs to take home. Sustainable Warwick will be there to demonstrate how yarn is made by spinning and weaving. There will also be an old-fashioned “onion sack” race and some other classic games.
A donation of $5 per child is suggested to cover the costs, with any proceeds benefiting Family Central, an all volunteer parenting support network committed to raising awareness of the unique challenges of parenting in today’s world, creating a parenting community to reduce isolation, build connections, and promote family wellness.
