There has been a change in the New York State Smoke Detector Law. All smoke detectors sold in New York State after Apr. 1, 2019 are required to be powered by a 10-year, sealed, non-removable battery, or hardwired to the home. This does not affect your currently installed smoke detectors. Smoke Detectors save lives so please use them and replace them if necessary.
Warwick Fire Dept. Report
The Warwick Fire Department (WFD) reports that for the week ending Mon., May 13, they responded to 150 calls for service to date.
This past week has been busy, with both company apparatus checks and company monthly meetings.
Each week, company line officers are required to ensure that each piece of WFD apparatus is in working order. Each vehicle is checked thoroughly, from the air packs to the pumps, with the assistance of other firefighters. On the first Tuesday of each month, each fire company holds its monthly meeting.
The Excelsior Hose Company held a company drill on Thurs., May 9 at Wickham Lake, which included drafting from the lake with the Excelsiors brush unit and fire engine. The Warwick Fire Police held their monthly drill and meeting at WFD Station 2.
Warwick Fire Prevention Report
As the nicer weather approaches and our roadways become more inundated with vehicles. Remember to use caution on roadways, leave early, drive safely, and follow the speed limit. Never follow vehicles closely and remember everyone has somewhere to go. Arrive alive!
National Police Week
National Police Week runs from Sun., May 12 to Sat., May 18. The WFD offers a special thanks to the Town of Warwick Police Department. This week we honor Police Week, which is observed across the nation as a time to honor and remember law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and those who continue to protect and serve our community. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
This week we thank the Town of Warwick Police Department and all of our Law Enforcement for all that they do to protect us.
National EMS Week
The 45th annual National Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Week runs from Sun., May 19 to Sat., May 25. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) partners with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to lead annual EMS Week activities.
EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s front line.
The WFD would like to recognize the Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Service for all they do for our community.
