The Greenwood Lake Public Library, located at 79 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake NY, has a calendar full of fun and informative classes and workshops being offered in April.
The Library will offer a defensive driving class on Sat., Apr. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must be 18 years or older and have a valid drivers license. There is a non-refundable fee of $30 for Greenwood Lake School District residents and $40 for non-residents. Payment must be made at the front desk within 24 hours of registration to ensure a spot.
This course can reduce the liability and collision portion of an insurance policy by 10 percent for each principal driver who takes the course. It is required that participants be punctual as they will not be permitted entry after 9 a.m., per DMV regulations. A light breakfast will be provided and time will be allotted for participants to break for lunch.
How to Make a Simple Robot
The Library will welcome author Kathy Ceceri on Sat., Apr. 28 who will show children how to make a simple robot out of everyday household materials.
The first session, “Make a Motorized ARTBOT,” will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is open to children ages six to nine. Participants will learn how to design and take home a motorized robot of their very own that can teach hop, spin or wiggle.
The second session, “Make a Solar Wobblebot,” will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and is geared for ages 10 to 17. Participants will design and create a robot that dances and skips in sunshine or bright indoor light.
Registration is limited and children seven and under must be accompanied by an adult.
‘The Joy of Sailing’
Bruce Terrin, of the Society for the Education of American Sailors (SEAS), will present “The Joy of Sailing” on Sun., Apr. 29 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Library. Bruce will show participants the basic techniques of sailing, including sailing terms and boating safety. This course will also discuss the various waterways of New York and New Jersey and the potential opportunities of travel.
