Every year the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce (WVCC) sponsors an official roadside cleanup event throughout the entire Town of Warwick NY. Grab your trash bag and join in the fun from Sun., Apr. 22 through Sun., Apr. 29. Operation Clean Sweep is coordinated by the WVCC and Warwick Valley High School student Julia Vargas.
Various groups, clubs and individuals take part by pre-registering their routes in order to ensure garbage pickup by the Department of Public Works. This program is for roadside refuse, not homeowner garbage. To register a road in advance, call 986-2720 or come in person to the WVCC Caboose on South St. on Sat., Apr. 28 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. There will be free refreshments available. Garbage bags and gloves will also be available to anyone who registers and they can be picked up at the caboose.
Various programs will be offered on Sat., Apr. 28 in the parking lot adjacent to the caboose from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence will be collecting used cell phones and the Warwick Valley Coalition will be hosting an unused prescription pill drop-off in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Warwick Lions Club will accept donations of old eyeglasses and hearing aids. There will be a shredding truck for disposing of paperwork with a suggested donation of $5 per box or bag.
Also on Sat., Apr. 28, The Computer Guy, located at 14 West St., will collect electronics for recycling and Leo Kaytes Ford, located at 145 Rte. 94 S. will accept motor oil.
