The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce (PICC) will sponsor the tenth annual Black Dirt Feast on Tues., Aug. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Scheuermann Farms & Greenhouses, located at 73 Little York Rd. in Warwick. This farm-to-table celebration will pair a sumptuous al fresco meal with fine wines on the great lawn of Scheuermann Farms & Greenhouses. Guests sit at tablescapes with beautiful linens, china and crystal as they relax at sunset and listen to live music in the breathtaking Black Dirt region.
This year’s fare consists of a six-course tasting menu from local chefs including: salads by Heather Kurosz, of Pennings’ Farm Market; a summery soup from Eddie Cullari, of Eddie’s Roadhouse; fish from Erik Johansen, of the Iron Forge Inn; poultry by James Haurey, of The Grange; meat from Steven Ernst, of Westtown Fare; and desserts from Jean Claude’s Patisserie and Bakery. Shawn Hubbell, of Amuzae, will provide passed hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour, along with a raw bar sponsored by Hudson Valley Seafood. The Conscious Fork will provide vegetarian alternative courses.
Dana Distributors is sponsoring beer for the sixth year, again featuring Scottish Ale and Pine Island IPA from Mike Kraai, of the Pine Island Brewery. The Black Dirt Distillery will feature a signature cocktail, the Black Dirt Manhattan, along with perhaps another “surprise 10th anniversary” concoction. Peck’s Wine and Spirits and Pine Island Wine and Liquors will provide a selection of wines.
Music during the evening will be provided by the Hudson Valley String Quartet, an ensemble of professional musicians who reside in the area. Local jazz artist Gabe Valle, of Monroe, will entertain during the cocktail hour. Custom vases by Sharon Galbraith, of East Ridge Pottery, will feature floral arrangements by Sally Scheuermann, cut fresh from the farm.
Proceeds from the Black Dirt Feast will benefit the local community through the PICC scholarship program for college bound students and donations to area food pantries. PICC members in good standing and sponsors can reserve tickets early for themselves and guests for $100 per person until Fri., Jun. 1. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public for $125 per person. Ticket reservations can be made in person at the chamber’s regular monthly meeting, by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling Janet and Jerry Zimmerman at 258-7008.
When leaving a phone message to reserve tickets, say and spell name slowly and clearly, state the number of tickets, leave an email address and phone number, clearly state the mailing address, and if any in the group desire the vegetarian alternative meal. Mail a check promptly to cover the cost of ticket reservations as unpaid reservations will not be held. Mail the check, with “BDF” written on the memo line, to Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 354, Pine Island, NY 10969.
To become a Feast sponsor, which includes four tickets, an ad in the program and a prominent flyer at the event, send an email to John Redman at email@example.com.
