The 2018 Warwick Summer Arts Festival (WSAF), now in its 18th year, will embrace the transformative qualities of the arts in the community as it presents an array of art celebrating both the visual and performing arts.
Melissa Padham-Maass, the WSAF Director, recognizes the efforts and support of artists within the community who contribute to the cultural growth of Warwick. In recognition of the multitude of artistic endeavors that play a role in the growth of a community, the summer long festival of assorted art exhibits, dance performances, concerts, and interactive activities will run from Thurs., Jul. 12 to Thurs., Aug. 16.
The schedule is as follows:
Thurs., Jul. 12, 7-10 p.m. – The Warwick Center for the Performing Arts, located at 63 Wheeler Ave. in Warwick, NY, will present a “10 Minute Play Festival.” The Orange County Arts Council will perform short original plays, screenplays or scenes with in-script hand readings. The admission cost is $10 per person.
Sat., Jul. 14, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.: A “Wander Warwick Art Experience Tour” will be offered throughout the Village of Warwick. Collaborative groupings of artists will be located in six off-the-beaten-path studio spaces, public businesses and community spaces, all conveniently located within walking-distance. The cost is $5 per person or $15 per group of four and includes a map, hands-on art experiences and Wonder Wand art materials and instructions.
Wed., Jul. 18, 6-9 p.m.: Pennings Farm Beer Garden, located at 161 Rte. 94 S. in Warwick will host a “Poetry Slam & Jam.” There is a $10 competitor entry fee and admission is $5 per person at the gate.
Sat., Jul. 28, 6-9 p.m.: Scheuermann Farms & Greenhouses, located at 73 Little York Rd. in Warwick, will host a concert and dance performance. The cost is $10 per person and children under 12 are free.
Thurs., Aug. 2, 7 p.m.: Conscious Fork, located at 14 Railroad Ave., will be the site of the culmination of the Front Porch Summer Arts Program. Warwick youth ages eight to teen are invited to participate in art making, movement, theatre, games, and storytelling, mixed in with weekly art collaborations with local artists at their studios. Sat., Aug. 11, 6-10 p.m.: The Seligmann Center, located at 23 White Oak Dr. in Sugar Loaf, will be the site of an outdoor art festival, presented and founded by DUSKLIT. It will feature 35 immersive installations, performances, and site-specific environments by over 60 artists from Canada and across the United States. The cost is $15 per person and $5 for children under the age of 12.
Thurs., Aug. 16, 8-11 p.m.: The Warwick Drive-In Theater, located at 5 Warwick Tpke. in Warwick NY, will present a Festival of Films. The WSAF and Milkweed will present a lineup of shorts and a feature film from Hudson Valley filmmakers. The cost is $10 per person or $20 per car load of three or more.
