For fresh takes on provocative issues, that people can’t get from some politicians, biased media, bent academia, or regular ole’ Hollywood, patrons can get it straight as well as with some twisted fun at the Hoboken International Film Festival (“HIFF”), called by FOX, Time Warner and other media “one of the ten biggest film festivals in the world.”
HIFF, now held in a unique setting for a film festival – right on the beach at the stunning Greenwood Lake – just announced its 2017 lineup of feature films, shorts, documentaries, and TV pilots. It’s a collection of cinematic projects that come from over 20 different countries and states from all across the U.S. Tickets to Opening Night on Fri., May 19, HIFF’s celebrated Gala Awards Ceremony, and individual movie screenings are already being purchased en masse.
HIFF Chairman Kenneth Del Vecchio said, “We’ve had packed houses every year, but I’ve never seen tickets being bought at this rate, this early. There’s something magical in the combination of Greenwood Lake, HIFF, and these movies.”
On Fri., May 19, at HIFF’s Opening Night Celebrations four-time Golden Globe/two-time Emmy winner and nominee Armand Assante (Gotti; Mambo Kings; Private Benjamin) will be personally accepting HIFF’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award. This honor will be paired with the worldwide premiere of The Savant, an action-packed thriller about an autistic savant high school student who has prodigious fighting and language skills, which offers a powerful climactic twist ending. Academy Award nominee Robert Loggia (Scarface; Big), in his last role, stars in the film along with Martin Kove (The Karate Kid; Rambo), Eric Roberts (Academy Award nominee; The Expendables), Eric Etebari (“Witchblade”; The Lincoln Lawyer), Julie McCullough (“Growing Pains”), and Joyce DeWitt (“Three’s Company”).
Speaking of Joyce DeWitt – this legendary TV star will be personally accepting HIFF’s Excellence in Acting Award at the Gala Awards Ceremony, on Thurs., May 25. Hosted by superstar stand-up comedian Gilbert Gottfried, HIFF’s celebrated finale offers all the glitz and glamour of the Oscars, with clips from the nominated films and live award presentations from celebrities/industry personnel to the HIFF nominated filmmakers and actors.
Both the Opening Night Celebrations and the Gala Awards Ceremony feature a red carpet pre-party that delivers the finest of cuisine, cocktails, music and just a heck of a lot of fun at Greenwood Lake’s Thomas Morahan Waterfront Park.
“The excitement from within the community is unmistakable. Greenwood Lake is the perfect setting for a major festival and we’re thrilled to host the highly successful Hoboken International Film Festival,” said Greenwood Lake Mayor Jesse Dwyer.
