The final Greenwood Lake Board of Education Meeting of the 2018-19 school year was held on Wed., Jun. 12. The meeting was filled with celebrations, as the Board recognized four teachers by granting them tenure and honored the District’s crossing guard.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology Sarah Hadden welcomed the audience, thanking the teachers for their dedication and honoring the Village’s long time crossing guard. Hadden will officially begin her role as Superintendent of Schools on Mon., Jul. 1.
Hadden, along with the Board of Education, granted tenure to the following: Middle School Art Teacher Christopher Ferry, seventh grade teacher Kate Hejnas, seventh grade teacher Tori Rasmason, and Elementary School art teacher Kara Zdrojeski.
Middle School Principal Jeffrey Golubchick thanked each teacher for their hard work and dedication to their students and commended each one for their style of teaching and the important roles they play in their student’s daily lives.
Elementary School Principal Dianne Connolly thanked Kejnas for her hard work and dedication to her students, commending her for her style of teaching and the important role she plays in her student’s lives daily.
Each teacher was honored with a framed photograph and a plant. Following the tenure ceremony, Hadden, along with the Board, thanked and honored long time Village crossing guard Donna Garley. Garley is retiring after serving the G.L. school community for 19 years. Garley was presented with a framed photograph and a plant for her service.
All honorees and their families were treated to cake, cookies, and coffee as a thank you.
Village Board Briefs
Village Trustee Katheleen Holder congratulated Board members Susan Selser and Mike Buckley on their re-election. Holder congratulated the eighth grade class on their upcoming graduation, the teachers on their tenure, and offered a big “thank you” to Donna Garley for all her years of service.”
The Greenwood Lake Public Library Summer Reading program registration will be held on Mon., Jun. 24. at the Library, located at 79 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake and online at www.gwllibrary.org. The program is open to children two years old and up.
The Summer Concert Series, presented by the Village of Greenwood Lake, starts on Sat., Jun. 22. The Village will host their annual “Celebrate American Parade” on Sat., Jul. 6 starting at 11 a.m. Music and the DJ will begin at 6 p.m. and the fireworks will start at dark at the Thomas P. Morahan Park Waterfront Park. Holder wishes everyone a happy and safe summer.
PTSA President Melissa Apuzzzo thanked Patricia Wark for her years of serving on the PTSA Board and welcomed new member Lisa Alvarado to the team. Box top classroom winners are Mrs. Crozier’s kindergarten class and Mrs. Collins fifth grade class. Each will receive an ice cream party. The annual Honor Roll Breakfast will be held on Mon., Jun. 24 at 9 a.m. at the G.L. Middle School. The final event of the school year will take place on Fri., Jun. 21 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend the annual ice cream social at the G.L .Elementary School.
The next Board meeting will be held on Mon., Jul. 15 at 7 p.m. in the G.L. Elementary School, located at 80 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake.
