Chris Van Vooren is a primarily self-taught artist who has resided in Greenwood Lake for the past 17 years. His medium of choice is acrylic paint but has been known to dabble in other mediums such as pastels and mixed media.
Van Vooren’s work will be featured during the month of October at the Greenwood Lake Public Library Art Gallery located at 79 Waterstone Rd., in Greenwood Lake.
As a local resident, Van Vooren has immersed himself in contributions to the village. He is the lead volunteer coordinator at the Greenwood Lake Coalition teen center. Under his supervision, the teen center hours have been expanded and he has brought in an art component to the children of Greenwood Lake as well.
Van Vooren serves as the vice chairman of the Greenwood Lake Chamber of Commerce. His village projects include the Greenwood Lake Mural at Sunshine Park, and the Greenwood Lake film strip project. He also painted the entire 40-foot long backdrop for Greenwood Lake Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz. He has collaborated with Windermere Studios to bring paint nights to the public with a systematic instructional class on acrylic paintings. Most recently he provided a mural for the outside façade of Greenwood Lake Roasters.
Van Vooren continues to work tirelessly to make the planned Greenwood Lake Skatepark – In Memory of Dale Hirrel a reality, donating much of his art to be auctioned off at Do It For Dale fundraisers. Local teen Dale Hirrel was tragically killed in a car accident in 2016. Skateboarding was Dale’s passion, dreaming of someday of having a skatepark in his hometown.
