Once again the Village of Greenwood Lake will roll out the red carpet at the scenic Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park, located at 7 Windermere Ave. in Greenwood Lake, from Fri., May 17 to Thurs., May 23, to become the set of Kenneth Del Vecchio’s Hoboken International Film Festival (HIFF).
Now in its 14th year, the event is anticipated to bring all of the Hollywood glamour, lights, cameras and action that it has in previous years to the picturesque and quaint Village of Greenwood Lake.
The festival will kick off with an opening night celebration on Fri., May 17, with a presentation of the 2019 HIFF Lifetime Achievement Award hosted by comedian Buddy Fitzpatrick. Sponsors and many local businesses of the event will provide entertainment, refreshments and more as actors, filmmakers and rising stars make their way down the red carpet.
The evening will culminate with the worldwide premiere screening of A Karate Christmas Miracle. The film stars Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, Martin Kove, Julie McCullough, Mila Milosovic, and the film debut of Mario Del Vecchio.
A Karate Christmas Miracle is an inspirational, thrill-ride family Christmas movie. The film was written and produced by HIFF Chairman Kenneth Del Vecchio and written and directed by HIFF Vice-Chair Julie Kimmel.
American film and television actor, Martin Kove, most recognized for his role as the ‘no mercy’ Cobra Kai sensei John Kreese in the Karate Kid film series and as Victor Isbecki in the popular TV series Cagney & Lacey, spoke with this reporter about receiving the Hall of Fame Award at the HIFF festival this year, his upcoming films, working with Del Vecchio and the beauty of Greenwood Lake.
Kove, recently spent five weeks traveling back and forth from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA promoting the second season of the extremely successful and well-written YouTube series, Cobra Kai, in which Kove works beside the original Karate Kid, actor Ralph Macchio.
In addition to keeping busy attending promotional conventions, he has been working on several new films. The star says he recently wrapped up a movie called VFW, directed by Joe Begos and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood directed and written by Quentin Tarantino, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino and many more. The movie is about a faded TV actor and his stunt double striving to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood’s golden age in L.A., 1969.
Kove expressed how honored he is to personally be accepting the 2019 HIFF Hall of Fame Award during the opening night celebration. The actor absolutely loves working with Del Vecchio and taking part in the festival.
“Ken is fun and he has always been kind. I enjoy how bizarre he writes and produces aside from everything he does. I absolutely love Ken and I love HIFF,” said Kove.
When asked about his thoughts on the Village of Greenwood Lake, HIFF’s new home for the last three years, Kove could not find enough words to express how much he enjoys his stay there. Kove says that G.L Mayor Jesse Dwyer is very likable and that he really appreciates all of the kind hospitality from everyone.
Kove enjoys lodging at the New Continental Hotel and Restaurant and was invited by Mayor Dwyer for a boat ride on the lake. The actor says that he enjoys the quaint Village so much that he might actually consider buying real estate in Greenwood Lake some day.
The HIFF’s Lifetime Humanitarian Award will be personally accepted by superstar TV host/actor/professional wrestler and former Governor Jesse Ventura. A tribute video honoring Ventura will be played directly before the award presentation.
The film festival will feature a week of screenings of some of the world’s most cutting-edge movies. Screenings will be held at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park; Cove Castle Restaurant, located at 13 Castle St.; and the Elks Lodge, located at 35 Chestnut St.
